Types of Training Methods for Employees
Effectively trained employees are happier and more
productive, so care must be taken when considering not only the materials to be
taught, but also how to teach them. This article explains why it's important to
choose a training method that explores the training method that works best for
your employees, based on the material taught
Why the training Method important
Training is important for recruiting and retaining employees. When new employees join the team, they are usually excited and eager to learn everything they need to know about the company. Existing staff also need training to acquire and develop skills. In both cases, the method is as important as the material with advances in technology, employers and talent development agents are receiving more development training than ever before. It is important to remember that learning methods vary from person to person.
There are three main types of learning Styles (VKA)
- Visual: Learning by seeing or watching
- Auditory: Learning by hearing information
- Kinesthetic: Learning through action, or by
doing
The best training methods cover all three learning styles, but it is
also important to know what is best for the learner and to have the materials
they need. Here is the 8
most effective employee training methods.
1. Technology-based
learning
2. Simulators
3. On-the-job training
4. Coaching/mentoring
5. Instructor-led training
6. Roleplaying
7. Films and videos
8. Case studies
Technology-based learning
Computerized training is becoming more and more popular
as technology advances. This is sometimes called computer-related training
(CBT) or e-learning, but it basically focuses on one thing. Put it on your
computer.
On-the-job training
On-the-job training or practice jumps directly to the practical skills
required for the job. New employees will start working immediately with this
training system. In some cases, it may be useful to include an employee shadow
component. This gives new employees a little understanding of context and work
requirements before trying them out for themselves.
Coaching/mentoring
Although it can be used to train a structured curriculum, there are many
benefits to mentoring and coaching. Implementing a company counseling program,
among other training methods, not only helps create opportunities for employee
development, but also creates relationships that help accept and support new
employees.
Instructor-led training
Classroom type training is the most traditional and popular training method
for employees. This method mimics other classrooms. You typically use
lecture-style presentations with visual components that your instructor sets up
to direct your experience.
Roleplaying
This
technique is usually executed with a trainee and a facilitator (or trainer),
where each is allowed to act out different potential work scenarios. This
method is most effective in industries that require client or customer
interaction, as it allows employees to practice handling difficult situations
Films and videos
Video
quickly became popular as an effective training method. This helps companies
train their employees faster and more efficiently. Many employees prefer it to
reading material. There are several approaches to video training. Some
companies choose one approach based on material, while others seamlessly
combine multiple approaches into one video, allowing video to make difficult
material more interactive.
Case studies
Case studies may be the best training method if you are considering
developing analytical and problem-solving skills. It provides trainees with
real or imaginary opportunities that represent typical service opportunities.
Independently or as a team, employees are asked to analyze the case and come up
with an overall solution and opportunity.
